A team of Year 9 students brought home the silver medal for Priestnall School at the Stockport SHAPES Triathlon.
On Friday 22nd March, six students from Priestnall School competed in the Stockport SHAPES Triathlon at Avondale Leisure Centre.
Competing against other schools, they made their way through a swim, a bike, and a run.
The race started with a splash! Our swimmers dominated the pool as they sped through the 400m relay, with the boys diving in first, followed by the girls.
This gave us a great head start as we went into the bikes.
For this section, students had to ride 4 miles each against the other schools.
The boys went first in a tough race, hanging on to our advantage by just less than half a mile.
Next it was a tense neck-and-neck battle for the girls, with our cyclist narrowly missing the lead in the final stretch.
We now knew our runners had to push deep to be in with a chance of winning.
Our male runner gave it his all and brought us back into contention, leaving just two lengths between us and first place.
With the end in sight, our female runner put in a powerful performance and secured us the silver medal.
We finished with an impressive final time of 43 minutes and 37 seconds, but the real win was the amazing teamwork on display!
At every opportunity, our students encouraged each other and despite not getting the gold, they came away with huge smiles on their faces.
All in all, the Stockport SHAPES Triathlon was an amazing event that pushed our students to their max. It even encouraged them to think about taking part in future triathlons.
Well done to all students who took part!
